The former Blues captain believes there will be further departures from Stamford Bridge over the coming weeks, with the European window still open
Chelsea could be set to bid farewell to two more players before the summer transfer window closes across Europe, with Dennis Wise expecting Danny Drinkwater and Tiemoue Bakayako to move on.
The arrival of Mateo Kovacic at Stamford Bridge on loan from Real Madrid has further bolstered a midfield unit in west London which has already welcomed Jorginho this summer.
Goal revealed on Wednesday that a deal for the Croatia international was nudging Bakayoko towards the exits, with the Frenchman in talks with AC Milan a year on from a £40 million ($52m) move from Monaco.
England international Drinkwater is also facing added competition for places 12 months after a big-money transfer, with it possible that he could be offloaded before the latest deadline passes.
Former Blues skipper Wise stold Sky Sports News on the battle for midfield berths in Maurizio Sarri’s squad: “They’ve got a fair few in that position that can play there.
“So it’s a fight for places, it really is.
“It will be interesting whether or not we see one or two Chelsea midfield players go by the end of [the window], you never know.
“And Europe goes on for another couple of weeks, it could still happen.
“Bakayoko, Danny Drinkwater. I think they won’t feature too much.”
Chelsea have also bid farewell to Thibaut Courtois ahead of the Premier League transfer deadline, with the Belgian goalkeeper having completed a €35 million (£31m/$40m) switch to Real Madrid.
The Blues have also had to fend off plenty of speculation regarding other star turns.
It appears as though both Eden Hazard and Willian will be staying, offering a boost to the creativity and attacking threat of Sarri’s side, with Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United being forced to look elsewhere for forward-thinking Additions.
